Knife holder

Knife Holder

It’s very easy to make a knife holder with your own hands - just pick up a small vase and firmly fill it with bamboo / wooden skewers, colored beans or ... colored spaghetti, as in our master class.

Knife holder

To make a knife stand, prepare:

  • The container or vase is the height of the blade of your largest knife. The shape of the container can be any, but without any bends;
  • Spaghetti, lots and lots of spaghetti;
  • Several zip-packs of large size (or just large bags that can be tightly tied in a knot);

  • Liquid food dye of the desired color (or several dyes, if you want to make a multi-color filling);
  • Baking sheets;
  • Aluminum foil or old oilcloth tablecloth;
  • Paper towels;
  • Kitchen scissors.

Instruction:

  1. Make sure your container is clean and dry, then firmly fill it with spaghetti. When the container is full, remove the spaghetti and add to this heap another couple of bunches of pasta in reserve (in case of filling the broken sticks).
  2. Spread spaghetti evenly in bags and pour enough alcohol into them so that he can dampen all the sticks. Next, add 10-40 drops of food coloring to each bag.

Spaghetti Painting

  1. Seal or tie your bags, then put them in additional bags to avoid leaks. Shake and turn the bags slowly to mix the dye with alcohol and pasta. Next, put the bag on one side and leave it for 30 minutes, then turn the bag over again and leave it for another half hour. Continue to soak the spaghetti in this way (but not more than 3 hours) until they have the desired shade.
  2. Cover your baking sheet with aluminum foil, then with a layer of paper towels (or oilcloth). To protect hands from staining it is advisable to wear gloves. Remove the spaghetti from the bags, pre-drain all the liquid, spread them on the baking sheet in one layer and leave to dry. From time to time, spaghetti must be sorted out for uniform drying.

Spaghetti Drying

  1. Once your spaghetti is completely dry, start putting them in a container.
  2. Shake the filled container and flatten the spaghetti. Insert your knives to determine the optimum filling density, add macaroni if necessary, or remove excess material.

It is important that spaghetti does not exceed the height of the container by more than 2-3 cm, otherwise they will quickly break.
