The history of style and its features
Modern style appeared in the late 19th century and reached its peak in the early 20th century. It owes its appearance to the historical events of the era, when there was a sharp leap in technology and the transition to mass production. This style has become incredibly popular and in demand, its application has become widespread, and many areas from art to advertising have been permeated with this fanciful original style. But interest in him faded away at the same speed as it appeared. Modern could not become an international style with a general interpretation, and there are several names at once depending on the country: in France it is called “Art Nouveau”, in Germany and Scandinavia - “Jugendstil”, in Italy - “Liberty”, and in the USA - Tiffany As a style of architecture, painting and interior, Modern began to fade during the First World War. The reason for this was the technically complex and expensive production of interior items necessary for him. The variety of interpretations has created some confusion in determining the characteristic features of the style. At present, Modern is far from its original embodiment, but has retained some of the distinctive features of the original, including this that can be observed in the interior of the Modern kitchen.
So, let's define what makes the kitchen interior in the modern style different:
- geometric shapes next to smooth curves;
- smooth and shiny surfaces;
- brave color combinations;
- functionality above all else;
- abundance of modern household appliances and various gadgets;
- minimum amount of textiles;
- Avoid excessive decorating and unnecessary accessories.
Modern is perfect for small kitchens - due to the abundance of glossy surfaces, the effect of expanding space is achieved. Minimalistic textures and bold geometric shapes, decorated in neutral colors with polished trim and asymmetry are key identifying features of the Modern style.
Forms and materials
So, the first sign of the Modern kitchen that comes to mind is smooth, curved shapes and asymmetric lines. Ordinary corner kitchen can acquire smooth forms, if the corner is rounded, and it can be rounded both “inwards” and “outwards”, - so the corner boxes can suddenly become round. Such contours are perfect for small rooms and how smooth corners will look, you can look at the photo.
If we talk about texture, the surfaces should be smooth and shiny - for this effect, when making the facade, for example, enamel, acrylic, film or varnish is used.
In Modern, it is possible to use many materials, especially wood and plastic. Some designers use natural wood as an organic contrast against the backdrop of artificial forms and materials.
Glossy metal, such as, for example, stainless steel, is one of the distinguishing materials in Modern. Metal can be used for anything from chandeliers to chair legs.
Modern interior designers also use glass and plastic when creating smooth and even surfaces is required.
The floor can be covered with linoleum, laminate, ceramic tiles, will look spectacular and self-leveling floor. The high cost of the materials used is not the main goal (although initially, including this, the style was different), because the emphasis is on functionality.
The main colors of the modern kitchen are soft shades. Often grayish-smoky, ashy, gray-blue, light brown colors prevail here. However, you will not have to get bored in such a kitchen, because such soothing colors enliven areas of bright colors - red, green, blue (preferably, natural shades, inspired by nature). These cheerful colors are usually used on wallpaper or curtains, but Modern, as a style aiming at a new reading of the old classics, does not dictate to us clear instructions, so the combination of calm and bright tones is quite possible in the kitchen set - rate the real embodiments of this idea in the photo below . Of course, the most impressive looks white kitchen, but in order to avoid excessive “sterility” of the interior, it is better, nevertheless, to dilute white with other colors. Often, with the design of the kitchen Modern, the fronts of the headset are made in several colors. The colors are specially selected in contrasting colors or shades according to the color schemes adopted in interior design, and sometimes even two different bright colors are permissible, and the table top is made in the third color. In this case, it is better to involve professionals in the selection of colors, or to use proven color schemes.
Lighting - an important detail of the interior
Initially, the lighting in the interior of the modern tried to make muted to create an atmosphere of comfort and romance. Today, preferences have changed. Chandeliers on the ceiling will not be the only source of illumination, because the design of the kitchen in the modern style is different, including good lighting. Therefore, spot lighting will be an excellent choice, and then a soft light will smoothly fill your entire kitchen. Chandeliers and other sources of lighting do not tolerate pretentiousness and ornateness, so that the form of all lighting fixtures must be strict, geometrically correct. Below are photos suitable for this style of lighting.
A characteristic feature of the modern kitchen is the lack of interior space and its functionality. There is no fundamentality, which is adopted in Classic, and, at the same time, there is no carelessness inherent in the Country style and Chebbi chic. Tables and chairs are of strict and simple forms, without any “screaming” details. Plastic chairs here look surprisingly harmonious. In the photo below you can see the most daring modern furniture furniture ideas.
The furniture can be white or, on the contrary, bright - this is not fundamental. Kitchen sets are mainly made of plastic and MDF and, as mentioned above, they have glossy surfaces. As for the handles of the facades, they are often absent, and in order to open the drawers, you just need to press the door. However, hidden handles are not the most practical detail, which is especially pronounced on glossy headsets, because fingerprints are constantly on the facades that need to be cleaned. Other interesting ideas pens, including the door, you can look at the photos we picked up.
Regarding the kitchen apron, it is often made of plastic or glass and in the same color scheme as the countertop.
An apron can also be one of the main accents, contrasting with the headset and table top. Take a look at these photos, the white tabletop and the frilly finish of the apron look very impressive.
It is also permissible to insert opaque or transparent glass into the facades.At the same time, they always remain straight forms, without any drawings and stencils. If you are trying to keep up with progress, then keep in mind that this kitchen can be filled with all sorts of technical innovations and useful gadgets - from this it only benefits.
The decor is discreet and stylish.
Modern does not tolerate extra decor and accessories. The decor is applicable, but it only unobtrusively complements the kitchen; it is desirable that it reflects its “modernity” and asceticism. On the photos we picked up you can just find something similar. The following decor is suitable for modern kitchen: modern clock, beautiful vases of simple shapes or dishes of geometric shapes and bright colors. But, of course, white dishes will look harmonious, because Modern on the side of simplicity of shapes and colors. At the same time it will be beautiful if the frosted glass in the kitchen set overlaps with the frosted glass vases. As bright spots also use dishes with fruits and vegetables. Textiles are infrequently present in Modern, but you can not do without some necessary little things: towels, apron, potholders, etc., of course, can be made of textiles. Instead of a tablecloth, it is better to pay attention to the placeholder napkins.
Modern consists of clean lines and focuses primarily on functionality and avoids the abundance of decorative elements that we see in many other styles. Some people think that Modern is too simple, harsh and cold, but when it is well planned and thought out, it can bring a sense of calm and harmony to your kitchen.
