How to arrange the interior of the kitchen in the Japanese style: tips, ideas and photos

Japanese style kitchen

Japanese style is good because, due to its neutral color scheme and conciseness, it is perfect for decoration both spacious and small kitchens, both for the southern "and for poorly lit" northern "rooms. And since the Japanese style is concise, it is, moreover, not too difficult to implement in the interior. In this article we will talk about how to design a Japanese-style kitchen with your own hands using a small design guide and a selection of inspirational photos. But at once we will make a reservation that it will be a question not of mats and real partitions of shuzu, but only of an adapted version of the Japanese style, which is so loved in our country and throughout the world.

Japanese style features

In fact, Japanese style is the same modern minimalism, but more refined. Let's list its key features:

  • Decorations, furniture and decor are mainly made from natural materials: wood, bamboo, stone, natural fabrics, etc .;
  • Natural colors without bright accents. Primary colors: white, beige, pearl, ocher, brown, dark brown, black and green;
  • Symmetry, proportionality and correct geometry of forms;
  • Minimalism in furniture and decor, strict organization of space (yes, Japanese style requires perfect order and double cleaning);
  • The functionality of furniture and equipment;
  • Good natural and artificial lighting;
  • Ethnic decor items.

Finishing: walls, floor and ceiling

Walls

It is best to decorate the walls of the kitchen in the Japanese style:

  • Decorative plaster;
  • Paint in light neutral color;
  • Sheathe wood paneling;
  • One of the walls can be turned into a kind of shoji by installing a Japanese-style sliding door instead of a partition or hinged door.

The apron can be finished stone mosaic, large tiles, stone, such as marble, and skinali with photo printing on the Japanese theme as in the next photo.

Floor

The ideal Japanese floor is dark, polished and always wooden. However, if the floor or floorboard does not fit into your budget, then think about the square tile as in the photo below. Squares in white and brown tones support the theme of the Japanese house.

Ceiling

The Japanese-style kitchen is one of the few cases where two-level ceilings and various suspended structures look as organic as possible in the interior. Other suitable ideas are wood paneling, wooden beams, ceiling wallpaper or stretch ceilings with photo printing.

Examples of Japanese ceiling design, see the following selection of photos.

Furniture: kitchen and dining group

Kitchen furniture in the Japanese style is certainly wooden and has strict geometric shapes.

  • The kitchen set should have solid glossy or simply polished facades without panels and best of all - even no pens. However, frosted glass inserts would be quite appropriate.
  • In the spacious kitchen, the dining table can be massive - with a wooden, stone, metal frame and solid table top. But if the kitchen is small, then large furniture should prefer lightweight metal or wood constructions with a light worktop, for example, glass. As for the chairs, then, perhaps, these are the only pieces of furniture that can have a streamlined shape.

Below we present you a large selection of photo examples of Japanese-style furnishing.

Japanese Kitchen Lighting

Artificial lighting in the Japanese-style kitchen should be as uniform and diffuse as possible, therefore, in addition to the central chandelier and furniture lighting, it is desirable set spots and around the perimeter of the ceiling. As for the design of lamps, here you can choose lamps in minimalist or eco-style, for example, woven from bamboo or jute, made of wood, straw, rice paper and even tree branches. The ideal shape of the lampshade is spherical, square or rectangular.

Utensils and decor

In the standard Japanese homes decor is present at a minimum, but on the other hand, it is given the most honorable role to personify the traditional values of the family. The “decor” for patriarchal Japanese is a scroll with calligraphically written wise quotation, Japanese engraving and a vase with ikebana. All this is stored in a small niche called a tokonoma. In the modern interpretation of the Japanese dwelling, it is not necessary to organize tokens, but the principle of decoration remains the same - there should be few decorations in the room.

  • Plants are the only things that can be many. Living trees in pots, bonsai, bamboo, orchids, as well as decorative ikebana and sakura branches will make the kitchen design alive, and the air clean.
  • Porcelain, ceramic and glass vases - they can be put not only in a niche, but also on the table, on the floor, on the kitchen set or shelf.
  • Laconic paintings and photos in beautiful frames, engravings and scrolls with hieroglyphs, samurai and geisha images can serve as wall decorations. However, try not to get involved in Japan, so as not to overload the interior.
  • Cutting boards, dishes for fruits, knife racks, panties and other kitchen utensils should also support the “Zen” atmosphere in the interior. Best of all, bamboo accessories can handle this task.
  • Pay attention to the choice of dishes and utensils in the Japanese style, as well as purchase cast-iron and clay teapots, small cups for tea ceremonies, beautiful sushi sets, Japanese chef-knives santoku and other symbols of Japanese cooking. Authentic accessories will make your kitchen a real dream of any Japanese.

  1. Hope says

    I really liked the Japanese style of cuisine. Everything is reserved, in black and white, with sprigs in the interior, albeit not sakura, but still an imitation of a plant. Bamboo and wooden accessories in the interior.Bar counters and high chairs, but you can, on the contrary, a low table and ottomans around to sit on the floor around the table, as it were, are very unusual and the style actively emphasizes the individuality of the owners.
