How to wash kitchen towels to perfect condition - 7 ways

Washing kitchen towels

Basically, to wash kitchen towels, just throw them in the washing machine:

  • White towels erased at maximum time and temperature settings (90-100 degrees). If the towels are not too dirty, then the optimum temperature is 40-60 degrees.
  • Colored towels it is better to wash at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees.

However, to wipe away stains from, say, grease, coffee, or beets, more serious measures and clever tricks are needed: boiling, soaking, using bleach and stain remover, soda, vinegar, and other home remedies. We will tell about them in this article.

  • The main thing is not to use radical methods more than once a month so as not to wear the fabric ahead of time. If you take care of kitchen towels properly, they will serve you for several years.

One more important note: only white and light waffle towels can be boiled and bleached with chlorine bleach. Color and terry cloths can be washed by hand / in a washing machine only with oxygen bleach and not for too long.

Method 1. How to whiten kitchen towels without boiling with vegetable oil - a super-easy way

To wash kitchen towels from greasy and any other stains, whitening with vegetable oil will help to get rid of yellowness or dullness. This method is as simple as possible, but it works at 100%. In addition, it is quite versatile - suitable for washing terry and waffle towels, colored and light.

Whitening with vegetable oil

Instruction:

  1. Boil in a saucepan 5 liters of water (in this volume you can bleach about 8 kitchen towels).
  2. Pour the boiling water in a bowl, add 1 tbsp. spoon of dry bleach, 2-3 tbsp. spoons of washing powder and 1 tbsp. spoon of vegetable oil and stir.
  3. Wet dirty towels with cold water, then fold them into a basin and leave to soak for 8-12 hours (for example, from evening to morning).

  1. Rinse the towels in clean water and hang them. If desired, bleached towels can be washed in a washing machine to remove residual dirt.

Method 2. How to wash kitchen towels in a washing machine with bleach

This method - first aid for dirty towels. Bleach removes greasy stains and patches of plant origin, disinfects and eliminates odors, whitens yellowed or gray towels.

Important! For washing in a washing machine only oxygen bleach is suitable. Moreover, it is suitable for white and colored linen.Even if your machine allows the use of bleach, you should not abuse it, because it is harmful to the tissues and to the machine itself.

Instruction:

  1. Wet the towels with cold water and load them into the machine.
  2. Pour the desired dose of bleach (most often it is 175 ml, that is, ¾ cup) in the compartment of the powder receptacle with the icon ||, if desired, add laundry detergent. It is better to do this: first pour the powder, let the machine pick it up, and then pour in / pour out the bleach.

Bleach

  1. Select the desired temperature and wash time settings and start the machine. Light towels wash as long as possible at 90-100 degrees, and color towels - at 40-60 degrees.

Tips:

  • Before pouring the bleach into the cuvette, insert a special dispenser for liquid detergents (if it is provided in the model of your washing machine).
  • Do not use fabric softener, as it is only useful for clothes and bath towels. For kitchen textiles, air conditioning is meaningless - it does not eliminate, but only mask an unpleasant smell and, moreover, covers the material with a protective film, which reduces the efficiency of washing.

Method 3. How to boil kitchen towels - basic instructions

Boiling will help out if there is no washing machine in the house or if it seems that the towels are so dirty that they are easier to throw away than try to wash them.

Important! Color kitchen towels can not be boiled.

  1. Fill a large pot / basin / metal bucket with about 2/3 of the water. Add detergent / bleach / stain remover / other detergent to it at the rate of: 2 tablespoons of the product per 1 liter of water (unless indicated otherwise in the instructions of the product).
  2. Put the basin on medium heat, load the towels in it and bring the solution to a boil. Try to stir the contents of the basin as often as possible.

Boiling

  1. When the solution boils, reduce the heat to low and continue cooking dishes from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on the degree of soiling and the color of the fabric. It is better to cook colored towels for no more than 15-20 minutes; light ones should be kept longer. Do not forget to constantly stir the contents of the basin.
  2. Now that the towels have boiled down, put them in an empty bowl with forceps and leave to cool.
  3. Wet cooled items thoroughly and rinse as usual.

Tips:

  • Before boiling with bleach, it is advisable to wash the towels first by hand or in a washing machine.

Laundry detergent can be replaced with a mixture of soap (72%) and soda. Rub the soap on a medium grater at the rate of 2 tablespoons per 1 liter of water, pour the chips into the water, then add soda at the rate of 1 tbsp. spoon for 1 liter of water. Next, boil kitchen towels in this solution, following the basic instructions above. Also, soda and soap can be used separately.

Tips

  • How to wash kitchen towels in the washing machine correctly? First, temperature is important. As we have already noted, the temperature of 90-100 degrees is suitable for white products, and 40-60 degrees for color products. Secondly, it is best to wash kitchen towels separately from clothes, linen, etc. The third tip: if necessary, it is better to soak very dirty towels.
  • How to achieve the best whitening results? First, you need to wash or soak the laundry with a powder and only then proceed to bleaching.
  • What is the best way to store dirty kitchen towels at home? This method is perhaps the most convenient: somewhere in the kitchen hang a basket or a small bag (preferably a mesh) on a hook. Towels will dry and be stored there until the day of washing. And if next to allocate space for storing clean towels, the change of kitchen textiles will be even more convenient.
  • How often wash and change towels? Ideally, once a day, especially if you are an active culinary specialist, you have a large family and you cook several times every day. Another tip: try washing and changing towels after they have wiped their hands / cutting board / dishes while cooking raw meat, fish, or eggs.
  • Which towels are more practical? For wiping dishes, surfaces, vegetables and fruits, it is better to have waffle or smooth kitchen towels.

Waffle Kitchen Towels

  • But terry towels are appropriate in the kitchen only for wiping hands, as dirt accumulates in them faster. So that at first the kitchen towels are less dirty, try to iron them after washing with an iron.
  • How many towels should be in the kitchen? Usually, the duty set includes: a hand towel, a towel for wiping dishes and vegetables, and a towel for wiping work surfaces, a sink, a cutting board (besides a rag) if desired. In any case, there are no many towels in the kitchen, because the more often we change them, the less we pack them and wear them with an aggressive wash.
  • How to prevent odor? Air dry before sending your kitchen towels to the laundry basket. After washing, try to immediately hang up the products, ideally to dry them in the sun or a hot battery. To make textiles have a pleasant aroma, when rinsing kitchen towels, add a mixture of baking soda and favorite essential oil to the water.

Some things just need to be honestly retired. and if a new spot appeared on a new towel that still looks decent, then I simply launch it with others on the program (I have an Indesit washing machine) Cotton 40 - quickly launders any contaminants and the towel does not suffer
