Corner kitchen sink - selection and installation

corner sink installation

Corner sink for the kitchen is a great way to save a lot of useful centimeters of the work surface. Placing the sink in the corner is a practical and ergonomic solution, convenient for most housewives. It is especially important if your kitchen decorates L-shaped headset. But there are no limitations in style - kitchen sinks are made of artificial stone and stainless steel (other materials are also used), so it’s easy to combine the required textures and colors.

Choosing a material

The most common kitchen sinks - stainless steel. Stainless steel makes them easy to clean, versatile in terms of style and affordable in terms of cost.

Ceramic sinks are considered stylish and of high quality, but their price is quite high. Such sinks can be made from:

  • Kaolin;
  • Faience (refractory clay).

The quality of such products will be higher than that of stainless steel sinks, because the ceramic sinks are characterized by:

  • Resistant to mechanical damage;
  • Color stability;
  • Durability;
  • Attractive and interesting design.

Models made of artificial stone and composite materials such as strongcryl and corian are no less popular. Their main advantages are environmental friendliness, durability and attractiveness.

But for expensive designer kitchens, sinks are often made of natural stone (granite or marble).

They are easy to maintain and look gorgeous, but their price is several times higher than that of a similar stainless steel construction (12-50 thousand rubles).

Kitchen sinks with enameled surface today can be attributed to the retro style. After all, these coatings lose a very presentable gloss very quickly. In addition, the enamel is subject to mechanical damage and is very difficult to recover.

Tip! For the classic style fit ceramic sink, and stainless steel kitchen sinks will fit perfectly into the modern interior. High-tech design will receive a logical addition in the form of products from artificial stone.

How not to make a mistake in choosing - the shape and size

Choosing the size of the sink, you should proceed from considerations of ergonomics and from what stand is installed in the kitchen. A small sink will be appropriate only in a small kitchen with a small pedestal.

The most comfortable sink, according to experts, is rectangular. So, any ordinary shell can be placed in the corner if the headset has a pentahedral corner cabinet of 90x90 cm. In general, the angle becomes the most convenient working area if there is a module with five edges under the table top. In the next photo you can see the difference.

There are also square, triangular, oval bowls, but they often act as an element of the shell, consisting of two bowls.

Combined sinks of this type are often used where there is a need to save space - one part of them can be used for dishes, and the second one - for vegetables, fruits, and defrosting food, which is very convenient. And the shape of the bowl must necessarily correspond to the general style.

Tip! It is good when the product is supplemented with a drainer.

An important factor of choice is the size, including depth. After all, if the sink is too deep, then when washing you have to constantly bend down. Too small, small model is also inconvenient - when washing dishes from it splashes will scatter in all directions, leaving stains on the furniture and the countertop. The optimal size here is 20 cm.

Preparatory processes - selection of the type of fixing the sink, preparation of the tool, dismantling

Corner (and not only) kitchen sinks are classified according to the type of installation:

  • Mortise (recessed into the tabletop);
  • Consignment note (the pedestal serves as a support for it);
  • Under-table (use special mounts for mounting under the table top).

Types of corner sinks for the kitchen

Chose the type of sink? Now you need to pick up a tool that allows you to install and connect with your own hands, and the corresponding materials. Here you will need:

  • Bollard;
  • Actually washing, the dimensions of which correspond to the size of the sub-table, and the mixer;
  • Jigsaw - in case the sink is mortise, you need to make a hole in the countertop under it;
  • Corners, screws for additional fixation of the shell;
  • Plumbing tools, including gas wrench;
  • Pipes (most often plastic);
  • Gofroshlang;
  • Cap from strong and durable rubber;
  • Rubber seals required during installation of pipes and mixer;
  • Siphon.

The process of dismantling your hands will not take much time. To do this, shut off the water supply - both hot and cold, and then remove the old plumbing.

It is recommended to do this in the following sequence:

  1. Dismantle the mixer;
  2. Turn off the corrugation (the pipe through which the drain passes);
  3. Disconnect the sink;
  4. Remove the installed mounting brackets.

Work on the installation of washing - the sequence of works

At the first stage, the location of the shell is determined. Regardless of whether the large sink is planned to be installed either small, stainless or made of artificial stone, mortise or invoice - it should be mounted as close as possible to the place where the old structure stood. This will save you from having to do long communication paths.

If such work is still necessary, then it is easiest to assemble a new water supply system from plastic pipes. To make the construction reliable, use rubber seals and special fum tape during operation.

Plastic pipes easily connect with old threaded connections.

Tip! If there is a need for laying communications on the kitchen wall, then hide the pipes behind the decorative box.

Assembling and installing kitchen plumbing with their own hands is not difficult. The installation of the corner sink, in fact, is no different from the installation of an ordinary sink.

  1. A corrugated hose is used to drain water from a new sink into an old sewer pipe. Initially, it is supplied to the sink sink, and then discharged through an opening in the back wall of the cabinet and connected to a sewer pipe. At the junction, it is imperative to use a rubber seal that allows the pipes to fit tightly to each other.
  2. The hose under the sink is connected to the siphon - this will allow the pipes not to be clogged with debris.
  3. After installing the plumbing, the installation of the sink begins. Theoretically, it can be attached to the wall on the brackets, but this hanging method is more suitable for the bathroom. Most often, a stainless (ceramic, stone) sink is installed on a pedestal or countertop that serves as its base. If a mortise design is used, then one cannot do without appropriate furniture with a solid table top.
  4. Cabinet with sink installed must be fixed - to the floor or walls.
  5. Begin plumbing installation with the installation of the mixer. It can vary in design and attached to different bases. Such a "support" can be both a wall and a sink (stainless or artificial stone). The mixer on the wall is mounted horizontally, level. To adjust its position using the included eccentrics.
  6. Upon completion of all work, you need to check the plumbing and sewage connections - if you were able to collect everything correctly, then there will be no leakage when the faucets are open.
