We repair kitchen hood by yourself

do it yourself repair

Repair of kitchen hoods is almost always justified from a financial point of view, it is quite within the power of every home craftsman to fix a few small faults with their own hands.

Dome hood

How does the hood

Before you start repairing the hood with your own hands, you should understand its structure. Such a technique can be of the exhaust (discharge) or recirculation type (the air is cleaned and released back), but in both types the asynchronous motor (8) is always the main working element.

Hood unit

Tangential fan

In addition, in such a technique will necessarily be a fan (2), which may be axial or tangential. Axial is the blade, "tightening" the air inside. The air flow will be along the rotation axis of the engine. Fans of tangential type are evenly spaced blades-blades. Such a fan is preferable - its principle of operation provides increased efficiency.

Hood filters

Filters will definitely be in the hood. For example, a low-end carbon filter (9) is put on the round input window of the motor, and the more expensive filter design with coal granules will be the one that has a rectangular shape and is installed immediately after the fatty one. The fat filter, in turn, is immediately behind the working surface (12). There are also fabric filters and paper products with impregnation (disposable), but now the most widespread mesh reusable metal grease catchers.

As for the control panel, it can be of a sensory or mechanical type, but it will always be a common unit, as shown in the photo below.

Hood control panel

If the device provides for changing speeds, then there is a mandatory circuit that generates a control voltage. The design is also complemented by lighting. It can be incandescent, halogen or LED lamps.

Repair the hood with your own hands is easy if you act according to a certain algorithm. It is clear that first you need to decide on the problem.

In the case when the hood is broken and does not turn on, be sure to check the operation of the built-in lighting. This monitors the integrity of the power circuit, the correct connection to the outlet. If the bulbs work, then the problem is the engine or control system, in which case you need to buy new parts that fit your model hood and are approved by the manufacturer.

Spare parts for kitchen hoods are sold in specialized spare parts stores for household appliances and in online stores.

How to change the engine hood

  1. Disconnect the power supply hood.
  2. Remove the filters by pulling the tongue. Unscrew the bottom panel of the hood, holding it underneath so that it does not fall.
  3. Disconnect the backlight wires so that you disconnect both panels from each other.
  4. Remove the hood or remove it from the cabinet by unscrewing the screws and place it gently on the floor. Attention, the hood is heavy, so it is desirable to remove it with a partner.
  5. Remove the fan from the engine, releasing the spring clip or other mount.

How to disassemble the hood

  1. Now you need to remove the engine. To do this, disconnect the green ground wire from the screw on the hood, and then cut the wires connected to the engine. Remove the 3 screws from the mounting plate as shown in the photo below, remove this plate and pull the fan motor out of the hood.
  2. Connect the new engine to the mounting plate, then place it in the exhaust housing, back ground wire.

installing a new engine exhaust

  1. Reinstall the fan blades, securing the spring clip. Install or re-install the hood, reattach all the casing panels and connect the power supply, check the operation of the new engine.

What to do if the control panel is broken

If the motor operates all the time, but does not change the speed, then in 92% of cases the problem lies in the control panel. In this case, it is better and easier to simply buy a new one and replace it; it is quite difficult to repair the board yourself.

And now we will consider possible minor malfunctions of the hood.

What to do if the hood does not turn on

Here there are several possible faults:

  1. The device may not be connected to the electrical network. It is necessary to check the fact of connection, and the presence of voltage in the outlet.
  2. Operability of the switch is checked by the tester. If this element is not “called”, it must be replaced.
  3. It may be that there is a power problem. They may occur due to breakage of the circuit breaker or failure of the fuses.
  4. The power plug may also fail. By the way, there may be a built-in fuse in the plug that can burn out - in this case, it will need to be replaced.
  5. Internal wiring of the device can also cause failures. It must be checked with a tester, and the detected bad contacts are eliminated by tightening the screws or pressing the tips with pliers.
  6. But the failure of the electric motor require major repairs and the intervention of professionals.

Hood works, but does not eliminate odors

Replacing the carbon filter in the hood

If, while working in the kitchen, extraneous odors still remain in the kitchen, then most likely the matter is in the filter. The efficiency of the exhaust is reduced if it is not replaced in time (not cleaned). For example, a carbon filter located immediately behind the air intake grille must be replaced about once every 3 months. This type of filter can be collapsible, then only coal pellets change in it (photo on the left).

Cleaning the grease filter for exhaust

Disposable grease filters (paper and cloth) must also be replaced. They are not restored and cannot be washed. But metal mesh designs need regular cleaning (they can even be washed in a dishwasher - approximately once a month).

If you made sure that the problem is not in the filter, then the problem can be solved as follows - increase the device operation time, including it a few minutes before turning on the burners and turning it off a quarter of an hour after the stove is free.

Lighting does not work

If the lighting of the hood does not work, then everything can be repaired with your own hands using the following algorithm:

  1. In the case when the fan rotates without failures, but the lighting does not turn on, the light bulb is simply replaced with a new one.
  2. When the replacement of the light bulb did not help solve the problem, it is worth checking the operability of the light switch, most likely it simply went off the wire.

How to keep working

At what height to hang the hood
  • To make your hood work as long as possible, you should change and clean the filters in it. Modern models are equipped with special sensors (buzzer or light bulb), demonstrating the need for replacement;
  • To prevent overheating (breakdown) of the engine, it is necessary to prevent the operation of the device when gas burners working without dishes;
  • In addition, the minimum installation height of the working surface of the hood must be maintained - 70-75 cm above the gas stove, and 65-70 above the cooking surface.

We repaired the crown hood, the control board, the processor burned in it, we installed a new processor, wrote a new program.

please tell me what the reason is ... the hood works, the air is being blown out of the exhaust hole .. but it does not take it out of the kitchen ???

We repaired the crown hood, the problem was in the processor, we wrote a program, the hood worked.
