Broke the dishwasher - can I fix it myself?

dishwasher troubleshooting

If your dishwasher is broken - it doesn’t turn on or launder the dishes badly, then don’t be in a hurry to call the repairman. After all, most damage can be fixed by hand. However, before it is worth understanding how the device works, what its main elements could fail.

Principle of operation

Do-it-yourself dishwasher repair - manual

Of course, before repairing their own hands, we need an instruction. If we talk about the principle of operation in general, then it is worth knowing that each machine has several standard modes with a similar algorithm - and the sequence of operations (as well as the principle of execution) will not differ significantly depending on the model.

The instruction describes the following operations:

  1. The machine picks up water from the central network through a salt softener.
  2. The flow of water comes under pressure through the filter and is regulated by a special float valve.
  3. When the machine has collected enough water, the flow is shut off and the heating starts.
  4. After heating, water is pumped by the pump into the working chamber and is sprayed through the upper and lower elements.
  5. Waste water is purified in a 2-stage filtration system, after which it is again used for washing.
  6. In the process of washing must add a special powder.
  7. Water is used "in a circle" several times and only at the very end the machine drains it. Drain is also provided by a special pump.
  8. When the washing process is completed, drying is carried out - it can be condensation or turbo. In the latter case, the process goes faster, since a fan is used for drying.

In short, the whole process looks like this: water intake, preliminary and main washing, draining, drying.

Tip! If the instruction manual is lost, download it on the website of the manufacturer or any major hardware store.

Problem 1. The dishes are poorly washed, stains, dirt, bloom, white film or tackiness remain.

If the dishes after washing has an unsatisfactory appearance, this does not mean that the dishwasher needs repair.

First make sure that:

  • the machine is not overloaded;
  • dishes, including cutlery loaded correctly - do not interfere with the rotation of the nozzles and do not block the dispenser (dishwasher dispenser);
  • the water flows clean;
  • cleaning agent has not deteriorated.

If you are sure that this is not the problem, then understand further what we can do on our own:

  1. If stains and white stains remain on the dishes, then it makes sense to refuse all-in-one pills, because they do not guarantee perfect quality, especially if the tap water is too hard.
  2. Defects of the "appearance" of the dish after washing can signal that there is not enough rinse aid or salt for the normal process.
  3. If the rinse is too much, then the dishes will be cloudy. An increased amount of rinse provokes the production of too much foam, which can be suppressed by powder. Or, you need to configure the dispenser. Start washing the dishes again, but with a smaller amount of rinse aid and for less time.
  4. The nozzles of the rotating rocker can become clogged - they are cleaned under running water.

How to clean the rotating arms of the dishwasher

  1. Perhaps you chose the wrong program, choose another - more intense.
  2. Dark spots on dishes may be formed due to the proximity to aluminum dishes during the washing process. Stains are easily washed with abrasives by hand.
  3. Brown or yellowish plaque occurs due to the deposition of glands, which are contained in tap water. In this case, you need to put the appropriate filter. This should make a plumber.

What if after washing in the dishwasher the dishes became dirty

Problem 2. Water flooded the bottom of the machine or is leaking.

If the water has flooded the bottom, then repair in this case is not required - in most cases, the reason for this is clogged filters.

How to get and clean the filter in the dishwasher

Filters are located in the bottom area - in the place where the drain passes. They are obtained simply, the instruction is not needed here. It is desirable to clear them before each start of the car.

The accumulation of a small amount of clean water around the outlet opening of the compartment in the rear part is normal. Thus, the seals remain wet.

If water or foam is leaking, then most likely the reason is in a crowded dispenser or spilled rinse, which caused the foam to form.

Leaking dishwasher

The resulting puddle you just need to wipe off and next time do not overfill the dispenser. In other cases, the problem may be wear / damage to gaskets or pipes.

Problem 3. The machine does not work, makes noise, the drain pump does not turn off, or steam comes out.

  • If the machine does not start, and you are sure that the socket to which the machine is connected is in good condition, and you turn on the power correctly, the problem may be in the low water pressure, then check the connections of all hoses and make sure that the tap is open.

Attention!

If the programmer is faulty, neither the manual nor the repair with their own hands will help - only a specialized workshop.

Also check if the door closes tightly; a snapping mechanism may have broken. In this case, it is also better not to repair the car with your own hands, but contact the service center.

  • If the drainage pump does not turn off, it means that you have restarted the machine, as a result of which it automatically turned off the circulation pump and turned on the drainage pump;
  • Do not be afraid of the steam coming out of the dishwasher - this is normal while drying or draining the water;
  • Noise from the car can occur during the process of grinding food and dispensers - this is normal. If you have not used the machine for a long time, then the noise can make a motor. In the future, try to pour and pour water out of the car from time to time or wash dishes in it once a week to keep the gaskets wet. In addition, the cause of noise may be a small object, trapped in a basket or poorly fixed cutlery.

Attention! A knock may be a signal to repair, then worn and damaged parts are replaced:

  • Damaged bearings of rotating arms;
  • Bearings of the main or drain pumps - then the knock will occur periodically or only at the end of each cycle when draining is carried out.

If you are convinced that after all the car needs serious repairs at a service center, then the first thing you should do when the dishwasher is broken is to dismantle it. This can be done by hand. To do this, turn off the power, disconnect the water supply hose and drainage channel. You will also need an instruction manual with the circuit to remove the front panel - this is the only way to access the controls. The bottom cover will also have to be removed by yourself - this will provide access to the pump, hoses, valves and engine.

Dishwasher disassembly

What parts often fail

Most often fails float switch - electrical device in the floor of the machine. It is a float in the form of a plastic cylinder, located inside the chamber and emerging when the water completely fills the machine. The switch may block the water - in this case, the instruction recommends repairing it or replacing it.

Valves may also be faulty. The inlet valve is located on the bottom - it can clog and not let water through. Dishwasher faults may occur due to breakage in the solenoid control coil.

If your car is equipped with a motor without reversing, then it will be installed another valve that drains water. Their faults must be repaired by specialists.

There may be problems with the sprayer, although this is usually rare. Most often they occur because of too hard water or because of contamination by food debris.

Damage such as a burned-out engine or faults in a pump that provides a drain or supply requires skilled intervention.

Problems may arise during the drying phase. Here the electric heating element may burn out or the fan is not working (it requires lubrication, cleaning, replacement). If the thermostat has failed, then it is not repaired, but replaced.

    I will add an article to my favorites. Periodically I encounter such problems. It seems that the dishwasher is not bad (Zanussi), but it happens that it is strange. And not old, only four years old ... And now, because of every problem, I have to search through a bunch of articles. And here everything is collected in one place, and the advice is really sensible. Thank.

    very sensible article, thanks! I only once had a situation when my car (my hotpoint was 10 sets) was badly washed, and then it turned out that these were watermelon seeds stuck in these plastic screws through which the water passes, pulled out the seeds, and again a new one, washes everything very clean, thank God, that the machine has withstood and not broken, after all, the hotpoint is great for reliability!

    Our dishwashers have, of course, a lot to deal with, but some are just plain terrible which is gentle. Our previous one has been serving us for less than 2 years, although we have cherished it and cherished it! then bought Indesite, also at the beginning of the tsironmonilis, and only then what was washed in it only))) and at least henna) after all much depends on technology
